Tips for Blogging Bliss: Part 1

Part 1: Why Blog?

Writing Web Words is beginning a 6-part series, Tips for Blogging Bliss, on blogging for business.  We’re going to be telling you why and how blogging can improve the online perception and performance of your business.

Blogging has the power to humanize and personalize what some consider a faceless and impersonal medium.  It can give your audience a glimpse into the personality behind the business, making you more approachable and accessible.  Other benefits include fresh content, more qualified traffic, more searchable pages in search engines and better online rankings.  If done properly, a blog can also bring a lot of positive press and attention to your company, at little or no cost to you.

Firstly, blogging allows you to create an informal and relaxed dialogue between you and your customers.  By posting interesting, informative and relevant content that your audience can respond to, you will be building a positive relationship and trust with current and potential customers.  Creating a dialogue lets your customers know that you are human, and exposes you to new ideas, tips, and feedback on your business.

Blogging develops the brand of your organization.  By publishing accurate and helpful content on a regular basis, you will develop a readership and a reputation as an authority in your field – which is excellent for business.  If readers know you and trust your opinion, they will be far more likely to work with your company, as opposed to a competitor.

Blogging allows you to quickly and easily publish content, keeping your organization on the leading edge of news and information related to your industry.  By constantly being on top of trends, and commenting on them, you will increase consumer confidence in you and your business.  Blogging also allows you to create non-intrusive marketing content that people often willingly subscribe to via RSS Feeds.

Blogging connects you to others in your field – increasing your online profile and reputation in the industry.  Just as networking is important in the offline world, blogging allows you to develop a relationship with colleagues, other bloggers, and those working in your industry.

Finally, blogging increases your findability online.  A blog provides another webpage and source of information that search engines can index.  Furthermore, by swapping links with other bloggers who cover the same topics as you, you will increase your rank on Google and other search engines.  Search engines tend to prefer websites that update often and have many inbound links.

Blogging is a great way to tap into social media, make a foray into the ‘real time web‘ and increase your company’s online profile.  In the next installment in this series, we will be looking at how to start your blog.  Stay tuned!
